About This Route
The Faulhorn Trail in the Bernese Oberland, from First (2168 meters) via Faulhorn summit (2681 meters) to Schynige Platte, spans 15 km with 1200 meters ascent in a classic alpine traverse. Advanced runners relish its wildflower meadows, Bachalpsee lake, and exposed ridges over 6-8 hours. SAC classifies it as demanding due to length and vert; ideal for ultra prep. Respect Leave No Trace by camping only at designated Faulhorn hut.
Safety Considerations
Exposed knife-edge ridges risk falls in wind; poles essential. Lightning on summit; descend pre-noon. Dehydration from dry sections; carry extra water. Ibex horns or sheep dogs possible. Fog disorients; navigate with app.
Essential Gear
Altra Lone Peak shoes for zero drop, Komperdell carbon poles, Patagonia Nano Puff, Garmin Fenix 7, electrolyte tabs, headlamp for delays.
