About This Route
The Goat Rocks Wilderness PCT section from White Pass to McCall Creek (PCT miles 2,297-2,320 in Washington), spans 23 miles of knife-edge ridges at 7,000 feet. Spot Mountain Goats, Horned Larks, and Prairie Falcons amid snowfields and tundra. Knife-edge traverse thrills; base from Packwood. Leave No Trace: no trace on fragile knolls.

Safety Considerations
Exposure on ridges; wind gusts 50mph common, use ice axe (Petzl). Snow bridges collapse; probe with pole. Bears scarce but cautious; canister mandatory. Lightning traverses open areas; time hikes pre-noon. Dehydration high; 5 liters/day. Slippery talus causes falls; good boots vital.
