About This Route
The Langdale Pikes circuit covers 7 miles from Old Dungeon Ghyll, summiting Pike of Stickle, Harrison Stickle, and Loft Crag in the Central Fells. Backpackers wild camp on Martcrag Moor or Blea Moor for dawn ascents. Link to Angle Tarn for multi-day to Eskdale. OS OL6 essential; respect National Trust paths.
Safety Considerations
Steep scrambles on Pikes demand hands-on climbing; wet rock slippery, causing accidents per Langdale Ambleside MRT stats. Mickleden valley floods after rain; check river levels. Navigation tricky in clag; stick to cairns. Ticks and adders active spring-fall; long trousers advised. Wild camping legal on access land: small groups, above 400m, dismantle sites fully per Leave No Trace. Avoid solo in winter gales. Heat exhaustion possible on south-facing slopes in summer.
