About This Route
Bright Angel Creek, a pristine tributary flowing into the Colorado River near Phantom Ranch, provides unlimited trout fishing (rainbow and brown) under NPS rules. Access via the North Kaibab Trail from the North Rim, a strenuous 14-mile round trip to the creek crossing at Cottonwood Campground (7 miles one way, 4,300 feet descent). Safety Considerations

Narrow trail sections with sheer drops amplify fall risks; loose scree and mule traffic add instability. Flash floods roar down the creek from rim thunderstorms; check NPS river gauge data. Dehydration hits hard with 6-8 liters water needs daily. Black bears and mountain lions roam; store food in provided caches. Follow Leave No Trace by burying waste 6-8 inches deep.
