About This Route
Rainbow Peak's Southwest Face offers advanced 5.10 slab and overhangs adjacent to Mount Oberlin, from Logan Pass. 5-7 pitches of sustained technical climbing on varnished gneiss. Short approach under 1 mile. Less trafficked; ideal for pushing limits with epic overlooks of Gunsight Pass. Follow NPS bouldering ethics nearby.
Safety Considerations
Polished slabs slick when wet; dry rock only, per REI advisories. Massive exposure; no falls. Rockfall from Oberlin; simultaneous ascents risky. Bears; group travel. Thunderheads build fast; microspikes for talus. Bolts sparse; trad rack heavy.
Essential Gear
BD Dragon cams, micro-nuts, 18 draws. La Sportiva TC Pro boots. Trango Phase ascenders.
