About This Route
Lago di Dobbiaco (Dobbiacher See), a 0.4 sq km glacial lake at 1,221 meters near the Pusteria Valley, provides flatwater SUP heaven surrounded by Tre Cime di Lavaredo views. Easy 1 km shore-hugging route from the north beach; family-friendly with shallow entry. Windsurfing zone aside, SUP thrives in the quiet bay. Local Dobbiaco tourism promotes it; rentals at Lago di Dobbiaco Center. Warmer waters (up to 20°C) make it Dolomites' most forgiving.
Safety Considerations
Windsurfers create wakes; maintain 100m buffer. Reeds harbor insects; use repellent. Post-rain, E-level bacteria spikes possible; test via provincial alerts. Altitude minimal, but pollen allergies flare. REI advises 1:4 buddy ratio for novices. Evening cools rapidly; exit by 6 PM.
Essential Gear
Board (Fanatic Fly Air 11'2"), ankle leash, UV shirt (Columbia PFG), water shoes (Teva Omnium), phone dry pouch (Aquapac), snacks, and bug spray.
Emergency Tips
Wake collision: roll off opposite side. Medical: beach first-aid station staffed. 112 connects to Toblach Sanitä; bikeshares for ground evac.
