About This Route
Cinque Torri (Five Towers) near Cortina d'Ampezzo offers accessible mountaineering via the Torre Latina Via Ferrata and summit scrambles (UIAA I-II). Park at Bai de Dones, ascend via path 421 to Torre Grande base, clip into cables for 200-meter exposed traverse, then ridge walk to Torre Bus de le Zara. 4-6 hours total, 500 meters gain. Ideal for skill-building with WWI trenches and museum nearby. Adhere to CAI via ferrata grading; this is Grade 2B, moderate exposure.
Safety Considerations
Loose rock prevalent on towers; helmet essential as per REI via ferrata checklists. Thunderstorms brew over Passo Giau; start pre-8 AM. Fatigue leads to slips on descent slabs; use trekking poles. Monitor for via ferrata shock loading by keeping lanyards taut. Group with experienced leader if novice.
Essential Gear
Via ferrata set (Edelrid Cable Tech), helmet, approach shoes (La Sportiva TX4), helmet light, first aid kit with blister care.
